WHAT IS “VOICES UNITED?”
Over the past few years, Arlington High School has been working to explore issues of school climate, inclusion, and culture in our school community. The Voices United (VU) training was developed to help students understand and address instances of bullying, bias, harassment, and degrading language among their peers. VU supports the notion that while teacher training and commitment are important, student leadership can significantly impact student interactions and school climate. VU will help AHS students develop the skills to build a school community that is safer, positive, and inclusive. This is a continuation of our ongoing mission of “learning, connecting, and caring in a safe, supportive, and nurturing community.” All students in 9th grade have been invited to be part of VU.

We have sent an invitation, description, and permission form to your students and their families. Please, inform and encourage students to have their parent/legal guardian complete the permission form.

We are elated to inform you that Arlington High School will be hosting our Student Leadership DEBI Workshops for the 2022-2023 academic year. The workshops will be facilitated by pairs of trained APS staff. We are calling these Voices United (VU). These workshops will take place across two locations: Discourse Lab (4th floor), and School Committee Room (6th Floor). Each workshop will take place from 8:30-3:00pm.
Please, look at the VU workshop dates written below to know which workshop you may attend. 9th-grade students, we would love to have you attend all or part of the workshop, but understand that you don’t want to miss a lot of time in other classes. Reach out if you plan to attend and when. We hope that the English 9 teachers will join us to see what we are doing and to connect with the students.
