Yesterday, The AHS Art dept had a fabulous visit from an important Boston visual artist, Chanel Thervil.
Working with the Arlington Commission of Arts and Culture (ACAC), Art teacher Nikki McCulloch coordinated this visit for her Painting class at HS.
Chanel did an amazing job connecting with students about her work, her experiences as a Haitian-American artist, and the art-making process.
She was selected as this year’s Arlington Artist-in-Residence by the ACAC.
I am copying her request to you here:
“In support of my residency, it would be great if you could direct Black students to email or DM on Instagram, or share the flyer attached with them. Hoping to reach more Black young folks in town to ask them about their experiences and hopefully create a portrait of them to be included in a public artwork celebrating Black presence in Arlington.”
