AHS Presents – Love and Information, a live play, Feb. 4-6, 7:30. Tickets Available

Love and Information, a play by Caryl Churchill

Tickets and details are available at http://our.show/lai-ahs.

The show runs February 4-6 at 7:30 PM.

Someone sneezes. Someone can’t get a signal. Someone won’t answer the door.
Someone put an elephant on the stairs. Someone’s not ready to talk. Someone is her brother’s mother.

Someone hates irrational numbers. Someone told the police. Someone got a message from the traffic light. Someone’s never felt like this before.

In this fast-moving kaleidoscopic play, 15 performers embody more than 100 characters to examine not only the meaning of what we say to each other but also how we say it. In a time when communication and ‘keeping in touch’ has become more complicated than ever, this play reminds us of the messiness and the beauty of shared moments.

This production has been entirely rehearsed, constructed, and filmed virtually using Zoom, personal smartphones and laptops, DIY green screens, and the ingenuity of the ensemble within the constraints of in their own homes.

AHS Winter Concert – 7PM, Friday, January 29

You thought the pandemic would shut down the annual Arlington High School Winter Concert?

Think again.

The forces Mara Walker, choral director; John DiTomaso, music technology; Tino D’Agostino, whose orchestra, concert band, and jazz students are much involved, and ACMi’s Kevin Wetmore are making it happen.

The AHS performing-arts department event is set for 7 P.M. Friday, Jan. 29.

It features AHS choral and instrumental ensembles as well as the music technology department.

View it via ACMi’s education channel (RCN 613, Verizon 24, and Comcast 9) or on youtube.com/ACMITV or acmi.tv/PONDER-REMOTE/

COVID Health Update – from the APS Nurse

Dear APSFamilies,

It has been quite a year of changes and challenges for everyone.  We continue to see new information and research every day regarding all things COVID.  You may have heard about one of the variants to COVID, B.1.1.7, now one of the dominant strains in the UK and has made its way to the US, though at present the number of cases is still low.  While there is limited information thus far, it is considered to be more contagious, though not necessarily more detrimental to health comparatively, and current research points to the possibility that it may be the dominant strain in the US by March 2021. CDC: New Variant.

We are taking this opportunity to impress upon families to stay the course in vigilance regarding wearing appropriate masks in school, physically distancing from each other, washing and sanitizing hands more frequently, and staying home if you display any concerning symptoms, are in quarantine or are awaiting a COVID test result.  The APS nursing COVID website continues to share policies, protocols, and resources and can be accessed at the APS Nursing COVID website.  As always, please feel free to contact your school nurse with any questions or concerns.  For more information regarding contacting your school nurse, please see APS Nursing Staff.

Lastly, you may have heard as of last week, the state mandate for flu vaccines in schools and colleges has been rescinded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  At present, the flu vaccine is no longer a requirement but instead is a recommendation.

In Health,

Susan Franchi, DNP, FNP-C, RN

Director of Nursing, Arlington Public Schools
