Dear Eighth Grade Parents:
We are excited to welcome all potential ninth-grade students, both Ottoson and private school students on December 11, 2019 to Arlington High School. The transition between middle school and high school can be difficult and sometimes overwhelming. To alleviate some of this stress, we would like students entering AHS to know some of the great work and experiences that are available to them and see first hand what a school day entails.
Students may arrive between 7:30 am and 8:05 am and will remain at AHS until 11:30 am, when they are transported back to the Ottoson. Private school students will need to arrange for their own transportation. The day will be filled with discussions on the curriculum, a tour of the building, walkthroughs of our elective classes and a question and answer panel with student leaders.
This is the first of several such events designed for both students and parents. As we continue through the year, please look for updates pertaining to this process on the high school website. You can also sign up for updates on The AHS Scheduling Website.
We will be holding a parent night for the class of 2024 on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 starting at 6:00pm in Lowe Auditorium; there will also be a meeting that evening for Special Education Services. It will be an overview of AHS with Dr. Janger (the principal), and myself with a time for question and answers. If your student is thinking of transferring to AHS as a member of a different graduation class (2023, 2022 or 2021), this is also an opportunity to see an overview of the school.

Today, November 20 is honored as Transgender Day of Remembrance. The day was set aside to memorialize those who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The Town of Arlington observed a remembrance vigil this past Sunday.
Arlington stands against all violence and hate, particularly that targeting our most vulnerable communities based on race, gender identity, or religion. The Transgender Day of Remembrance raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people. Through the vigil, the Day of Remembrance reminds everyone that transgender people are our sons, daughters, parents, friends and neighbors. Day of Remembrance gives allies a chance to step forward and stand with our community in vigil, memorializing those who’ve died by anti-transgender violence.
Tomorrow (11/21) is National Children and Teens Grief Awareness Day. The encouragement for the day is to wear blue, supporting the understanding that children and teens do grieve. Representatives from The Children’s Room will be present at all three lunches with an interactive display and resources for teens. Please stop by the display and wear blue to support the cause!
Arlington High School has been named by Newsweek as one of America’s top 500 STEM Schools. This list includes both public and private schools. The purpose was to determine which primary/secondary institutions in America best offer students experiences in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) —as defined by the Congressional Research Service — while preparing them for post-secondary outcomes.
Congratulations to our students, teachers, and families! We have achieved these honors because of the collective efforts of our entire community.
